Our butter keeper (also known as a French butter dish) is a two piece container used to maintain the freshness and spreadable consistency of butter without refrigeration. Butter keepers will hold between 1.5 - 2 sticks of softened butter which should be pressed firmly into the container top. Approximately 1/2½ inch of cold water should be put in the base of the container and changed out every 2-3 days. The water in the container will act to create a seal to keep oxygen away from the butter, allowing it to be stored at room temperature safely for 2-4 weeks. All of our pieces are one-of-a-kind and contain unique variations of patterns and colors. Actual items will be very similar in size, shape and color but because they are handmade, will have variation from piece to piece. Items are made using stoneware clay and glazes that are lead free and food, microwave, and dishwasher safe. All handcrafted pieces are wheel thrown, trimmed, glazed, and fired at our home studio.
