Beginner class: In this 6 week session, beginners will learn the basics of wheel throwing, hand building, and glazing stoneware pottery. Class will meet once per week and students are encouraged to come in outside of class time after week 2 for additional practice. By the end of the 6 week period, you should have a basic understanding of the pottery making process and have the ability to make basic bowl and cylinder shapes (cups, vase, etc). A basic tool kit will be provided and clay/glazes for use on classroom projects will be provided as well. Students will be provided with one 25 lb bag of clay for use on practice projects outside of classroom time. If more clay is wanted, it can be purchased at a rate of $36.00 per 25# bag which includes the cost of glazing & firing.
Intermediate class: In the Intermediate class, students will build on the skills gained in the beginning class. We will continue to master basic forms and learn to throw larger forms. We will continue to work on handles, learn additional glazing techniques, and learn to do some basic carving and make fitted lids. Students will be able to choose personal projects and receive assistance to complete chosen projects. To enroll in this class, students should have completed the beginning class or should have prior basic experience with throwing pottery. Classes will run for 6 consecutive weeks. Students will received three 25# bags of clay and the cost of the class will include glazing and firing of pieces made with the clay provided. Students will have access to the studio during all open studio hours while enrolled.
